Consultation: Your first visit with our Orthodontist Dr. John Linnane will involve an intraoral examination and orthodontic photographs, enabling the best available view of your teeth and their alignment. John will go through your individual case providing treatment options which are most suitable to you. On this visit you will be informed of the overall costing of your treatment and different payment plans available to you.
Records : A gathering of relevant information is the next step for your orthodontic treatment. Our records appointment includes orthodontic photographs, upper and lower impressions to create models of your teeth, bite records and digital x-rays (OPG and Ceph). For adults a gum health check including a scale and polish is carried out by our hygienist.
Treatment Planning: At this visit Dr. Linnane will discuss the findings of the records appointment with you. A plan is devised specific to your case by critical evaluation of your mounted articulated study models, x-rays and photographs. Informed consent and any risks of treatment will be discussed in detail at this appointment.
Bond up: Generally, this is the appointment that either your upper or lower braces are placed. Comprehensive oral hygiene instructions will be given on this visit.
Arch wire changes: These are your regular visits which will take place every 6 to 8 weeks apart. These visits allow John the make necessary adjustments to your braces. This may be done by changing wires or repositioning brackets. Initially, we start treatment with the lightest wire and work our way up to the strongest. This must be done slowly to avoid irreversible damage to the roots of your teeth.
Debond: The visit in which everyone looks forward to the most. This is the day when your braces are removed and your teeth are cleaned with our hygienist Isobel. Post scale and polish, John will take photographs of your new smile and also take impressions of your new tooth position for customised retainers to be made.
Retainer Fit: This happens the day after your debond. The retainers are a very significant part of your treatment. If you want to keep your new smile perfect the retainers must be worn to Dr. Linnane's prescription.
Retainer Check appointments will be organised for you over the two years after your treatment to ensure your smile and retainers are still looking great.
